Types of Skateboards Explained for Beginners

If you’re new, don’t overcomplicate it.

There are 4 main types of skateboards you should know:

 


1. Street Skateboard

  • The most common type

  • Best for tricks (ollies, flips, etc.)

  • Works in streets and skateparks

Best for beginners and Pros

 

2. Cruiser Skateboard

  • Softer wheels = smoother ride

  • Easy to balance

  • Not made for tricks

Good for: riding around / daily use

 

3. Longboard

  • Longer and more stable

  • Very smooth for long rides

  • Hard to do tricks

Good for: cruising and distance

 

4. Electric Skateboard

  • Has a motor (no pushing needed)

  • Controlled with a remote

  • Expensive

Good for: easy riding, not learning tricks

 

Final Thoughts:

If you’re starting out:
Go for a street skateboard.
