Skateboarding in Kerala was once almost non existent. A small group of around 7 to 9 skaters were the only ones consistently hitting the streets, filming clips, and sharing their sessions on Instagram.
Those early skateboarding videos from Kerala started gaining attention. Slowly, more locals discovered skateboarding and picked up boards. What began as a tight-knit group evolved into a growing skateboarding community in Kerala.

Street Skateboarding in Kochi: Where It All Started
Before skateparks, street skateboarding in Kochi was everything.
Sunday mornings became the core of the scene. Skaters would meet, explore new street spots, and push each other creatively. One of the most iconic locations was Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kaloor.
For years, this wasn’t just a skate spot it was the skateboarding hub in Kochi. The smooth ground and open space made it perfect for street skating progression.
Despite challenges like lack of skateboarding infrastructure in Kerala and occasional restrictions from authorities, the street scene stayed alive.
Skateparks in Kerala: A Turning Point
The biggest shift in skateboarding in Kerala came with the rise of skateparks.

In 2023, Loop Skatepark changed everything. It introduced a proper skateboarding environment with bowls, ramps, and transitions, something the Kerala skate scene had never experienced before.
Today, Loop Skatepark Kochi is a central hub for skaters. Around 5 PM daily, the park fills with skateboarders practicing tricks, filming clips, and building community.
Another major addition is Kovalam Skatepark, which has expanded the skateboarding culture in South Kerala.

A new skatepark is also being developed in Varkala, further strengthening Kerala’s skateboarding infrastructure.
The Kerala Skateboarding Community
Skateboarding in Kerala is more than just spots. It is about people.
Early skate crews like Flysquad Kochi and Skatemonks have played a major role in building the scene.
These communities have helped skateboarding in India grow organically, inspiring new skaters and making the culture more visible.
